Recycling in Erie County is made easy by the quick and fun Erie County "Recycle This" website. The Erie County Department of Planning's recycling website, www.recyclethis.org, lets you point and click your way to understanding recycling in your municipality.

Click on your township or municipality on the "Recycle This" map of Erie County and you'll be quickly connected to information on how to recycle in your county.

The "Recycle This" website also provides you with information on how to recycle certain products around Erie County. Those products include: aluminum cans, anti-freeze/motor oil, appliances, brass, car batteries, Christmas trees, copper, freon, leaves, newspaper, ni-cad, phone books, radiators, scrap metal, steels cans, styrofoam board, styrofoam peanuts, tires, wire (copper and brass), wood, yard waste, compact discs, computer disks and unsold software, computers, disposable cameras, eyeglasses, greeting cards, smoke detectors, and sneakers and athletic shoes.

Blue Bag Recycling

Residents of the City of Erie can leave their recyclables at the curbside every other week for collection. The City uses the "Blue Bag" system for recycling collection.

Place the following materials in your blue bags, which are available at most retail stores in the area, and they will be collected by the city for recycling:

• Glass bottles and jars (remove all caps and lids)
• Metal food or beverage cans (rinse thoroughly; aluminum cooking and eating utensils and dry metal paint cans at one gallon or less can also be included)
• Aerosol cans (must be empty and without lids)
• Plastic containers (#1 and #2 plastic only; container size cannot exceed two gallon size)

Paper Recycling

Paper recycling in the City of Erie is picked up the same day as trash day every other week and weekly in December.

Paper recycling includes:

• Newspapers and magazines (bundled and tied with string or placed in paper bag)
• Cardboard, cereal and food boxes (put smaller containers inside of large ones)
• Pop, beer, paper milk, and egg cartons
• Paper bags
• All grades of paper, junk mail (please place these items in a clear plastic bag) wrapping paper, envelopes and computer paper
